Hey guys, this is a lightning-fast post to say I’m off for a week on a trip to Ohio. Now that may not sound like the “garden spot” of the world but for me it’s definitely where I want to go. I’m off to attend one of the biggest horticultural conferences in the country Cultivate ’16. This is my first time so I’m simultaneously nervous and excited. In the meantime, I thought I’d drop you this quick note with a recipe for the perfect beverage for summer – pink lavender lemonade. Lavender may be new to you in chilled drinks but I guarantee you’ll love this. So make this up, take a sip, and wish me well as I fly off to Ohio. See you when I get back!
1 1/2 cups sugar
6 1/2 cups water
1 – 1 1/2 cup lemon juice
2 – 4 tablespoons lavender buds (fresh preferred)
2 cups fresh or frozen berries, your choice
Clean or defrost the berries. Combine the sugar, lavender buds, and water in a pot and place over medium heat. While the water is heating, crush the berries in a bowl with a potato masher or fork to release the juice. Add berries and juice to pot and stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture just begins to boil. Remove from heat and strain out the berries. Add lemon juice to taste. Pour over ice and serve.
