With the holidays here, you are probably connecting with family or friends to share the joys of the season. Whether it’s just a few buddies over for dessert or (as one friend used to say) “the whole famn damily” one thing that will make spirits bright is a hot drink on a chilly evening. Here’s a recipe that is sure to please even grumpy Aunt Charlotte. The really great thing about it is you throw the ingredients together (5 minutes, tops) before guests arrive and then go about your business making your home presentable. Then when guest arrive, the air is scented with the fruity, spicy aroma of a mouth-watering hot drink they’ll be glad to enjoy. Skoal!
- 48 ounces cranberry juice
- 1/2 – 3/4 cup lemon juice
- 5-6 cups hot water
- 1 cup sugar or equivalent sweetener
- 1/2 cup honey
- 8-12 whole cloves
- 6-8 cinnamon sticks
- Combine all ingredients in a crockpot. Stir and taste, adjusting the lemon juice or sweetener to suit you. Simmer on low heat for 4 hours or high heat for 2 hours. Stir about once an hour.
